Lightning McQueen, typically referred to by his surname McQueen, is an anthropomorphic racecar and the main protagonist in the 2006 animated Pixar film Cars. He was named after Pixar animator Glenn McQueen who died from skin cancer in 2002. He is voiced by actor Owen Wilson in the film,Mater and the Ghostlight the video game and Keith Ferguson in Cars Toons and Cars Mater-National.
Lightning McQueen, typically referred to by his surname McQueen, and occasionally called “Stickers” by Sally, is the main character and is voiced by actor Owen Wilson. He is named after Glenn McQueen, a Pixar Animator who died of melanoma in October 2002. His overall profile was inspired by stock cars and a “more curvaceous Le Mans endurance racer”, e.g., Lola and Ford GT40.[1] His number, 95, is a reference to the year Pixar released its first feature-length movie, Toy Story. In the beginning of the film, Lightning McQueen is a narcissistic, selfish race car, especially towards his pit crew. He hopes to be the first rookie to win the Piston Cup race and gain a lucrative endorsement deal from Dinoco in the final race of the season, but finishes in a three-way tie with perennial runner-up Chick Hicks and veteran Strip “The King” Weathers after losing his huge lead on the final lap (#400) because of two blown tires. He gets lost in Radiator Springs on his way to California and meets new friends who teach him there is more to life than winning car races and gaining deals. It is there he meets Mater and falls in love with the town attorney, Sally Carrera. He changes his look at the end of the movie, while his bad attitude changes during his time in Radiator Springs. He learns these valuable lessons: true friendship; how greed affects others; keeping promises; teamwork; and that life is about the journey, not the destination. These values lead him to rejuvenate Radiator Springs back to its heyday. Therefore, he decides to call the little town his home, and the headquarters of Team Lightning McQueen which gets finished in Cars Mater-National and Mater called it a club house.
Lightning “Stickers” McQueen is the star of the 2006 Pixar film Cars. He is a red racecar sponsored by Rust-eze Medicated Bumper Ointment (“With Just a Little Rust-eze, you can look like Lightning McQueen!”). He is #95 in the movie, and at the beginning of the movie, he is racing his first Piston Cup race in Nashville, Tennessee, and is winning. At the end of the film, he lost the race out of good intentions, and got a new paint job, and still sponsored by Rust-eze, although at the beginning of the film, he wanted a Dinoco sponsorship. He really likes Sally Carrera. Lightning McQueen is based on John Lasseter.
His racing number, “95″ is a reference to the year 1995, when Pixar’s first feature-length film, “Toy Story” was released, and his last name “McQueen” is a reference to Glenn McQueen, a supervising animator at Pixar who passed away in 2002.

He will have to drive in a race in California to determine who will be the next Piston Cup champion. Along the way, McQueen gets lost in the small town of Radiator Springs. While stuck in Radiator Springs, Lightning finds new friends and realizes there is more to life than winning races and gaining sponsorship deals. He learns the life lessons of friendship, teamwork, selflessness, and that life is about the journey, not the destination. With all of his new values and friends, McQueen returns to Radiator Springs after the big race to bring the small town back to its once glorious days and makes it his new home.
